The 3 things you MUST know about Wrong Fuel!

Waste Fuel Removal

Have a fuel reservoir placed in the back of the garden with unwanted and old, useless or contaminated fuel? We are able to help you to dispose of it. We have been called out to quite a few private and commercial properties in Merseyside for the purpose of removing and disposing of fuel storages. We are registered by the Environment Agency to allow us to get rid of and recycle waste fuel safely and legally.

Irrespective of whether the fuel storage is an underground tank, a portable bowser, or even a few containers in a storage shed, as long as we can reach it, we can certainly empty it.

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, whether it is unleaded petrol or diesel, is generally a serious situation to handle in a vehicle - especially in modern day common-rail engines.

Putting water or AdBlue inside your fuel tank can produce idling difficulties, irregular running, increased smoke and, if it is not addressed fully, potentially broken injectors. Having water in petrol is easier to clean out as compared with water in diesel - this is primarily due to the fact that diesel is an oil. Having said that we can take care of both circumstances rather simply.

Take note that if the vehicle was run on the water contaminated fuel it will likely require a new fuel filter fitted as the old one will undoubtedly be thoroughly wet and ineffective.

Wrong Fuel in Car in PR9 Postcode - Crossens Misfueling

What a fantastic night's sleep! 7:00 in the morning on a gloomy Saturday and we were en route to help an old sweetheart who put contaminated fuel in her diesel white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in Crossens. She informed us that she had left the petrol station and was pulled up in a rural road on route to see her family. I got the location punched in the Satnav and got there in less than an hour. I reached the stricken lady and drained the wrong fuel in the car vehicle. Whilst I was doing it she explained, "I am becoming rather absent-minded in my senior years and forgot about the vehicle taking diesel as I had only bought it several days back when my old one, which I'd owned for more than twenty years, inevitably gave up the ghost". I got the job done and she gave me a peppermint and thanked me for my work. Such a pleasant Merseyside woman!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
